Davis, CA is almost done with their Dutch intersection. One more week and the striping is scheduled be done, on August 3rd, 2015.
Interestingly, the design incorporates protected intersection features as well as conventional ones. So there is a refuge island, a setback crossing for cyclists and a separate crosswalk for pedestrians, as their should be in a protected intersection. AND on the road there's the typical mixing zone for cyclists who want to take the straightest path through the intersection to go straight, even if it means switching places with the cars turning right. And the brave and fearless riders can still make left turns from the left turn lane in the middle of the road if that's their preference. Check it out for yourself:
We can't wait to take a trip up to Davis in October or November to see it in person!
